TransFair USA is the only independent U.S. certifier of Fair Trade products. Fair Trade Certified means that farmers and business owners are guaranteed a fair price for their products and workers are guaranteed a fair wage for their labor. It also means that developing world communities survive and thrive, children go to school often for the first time in their lives, women take part in decision making, bird habits are restored, only sustainable farming practices are used thus preserving the land and providing healthy food products for consumers, and the list goes on. It is a model that requires no laws, no international treaties, no lobbying. It's good to go!
TransFair was instrumental in helping us make Media, PA, the “First Fair Trade Town in the US”. Ten other US towns have now achieved Fair Trade status, and TransFair has added a full-time staff person to support this effort.
